Ideas for Kids

  • Try scanning the night sky with binoculars in the sword of Orion to see a gas cloud where stars are born. The sword is located below the bright stars of Orion's belt.
  • Summer is a great time to explore the Milky Way with binoculars.  Be sure to look toward the south and scan your way up along the Milky Way overhead.  Many cool things can be found from globular clusters, to nebulae, to double stars. Look for constellations such as Scorpius, Sagittarius, Cygnus, Aquila, and Lyra.  These are great starter constellations because they contain a number of bright stars.
